Slam Entertainment Caught Up with THAT NATION. Checkout what They Have to say in Their Interview Below:
Slam Ent: What is your name? Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
LiL BiLL Swavey: My name is Billy Green Jr. I’m named after my pops who is the senior. I’m originally from Houston Texas but I grew up in the small city of Opelousas Louisiana. I was raised in a musically inclined home. My mom, Charlotte Greene, was a singer in her church choir, and my uncle Mark Jones always thought he was Michael Jackson with his singing and dance moves. So I was kind of pushed to become SOME SORT of musical entertainer.
Dezzy-D: My full name is Desmond Anthony Richard, ironically all names have 7 letters in each. I’m from Opelousas Louisiana, but I didn’t necessarily grow up out here fully. I kinda bounced around city to city, different states, from Baton Rouge, La to Houston, TX. The list goes on and on. I really decided I wanted to be a rapper when I started the first grade. I was head of my time, I knew more than I should and I would hear my step dad play his music and I kind of admired him, but I didn’t take it serious until I turned 15.
Slam Ent: How did you come up with your Stage name?
LiL BiLL Swavey: I got “LiL BiLL Swavey” from two different places. I was always known as “Little Billy” on my pop’s side of the family because I was the Jr. So I just dropped the “Y” off “Billy” because it just sounded weird saying “LiL Billy”. I kept the name “LiL BiLL” for a couple years then I came across the artist, Tory Lanez who was real big on the word “Swavey”. He described the word as a genre of music that’s a blend of all music into one, so instead of just saying Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz, Blues, etc… he just called it “Swavey” and that resonated with my music ands it kind of stuck with me. So I attached that onto my first name and here I am.
Dezzy-D: The name “Dezzy-D,” came about through two people. I had a friend in 8th grade that just started calling me Dezzy out of nowhere and I kind of like it, then I hooked up with Bill my freshman year and he added the D, so then it was “Dezzy-D,” i started using that because I actually liked it.
Slam Ent: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration?
LiL BiLL Swavey: My inspiration can be drawn from ANYTHING that is put in front of of me. For instance, this INTERVIEW may be an inspiration for a verse or a hook. I talk about actual EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES for me. I hate creating things that I don’t really do. I can’t live a false reality, so my inspiration is all the things around me.
Dezzy-D: My inspiration has no certain specification, I hear a beat once and it plays in my head all day, I freestyle to it in my head and then whatevers left I’ll sit down and write it or if I don’t have time I’ll Freestyle on the mic, so I really need to do certain things.
Slam Ent: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
LiL BiLL Swavey: Besides record music and learn the business of the game, there is absolutely NOTHING to do in this city. We have to kind of make the fun OURSELVES. That’s where that creativity that we have comes in. I play video games a lot. Like 2K, Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto. Other than that, I’m either recording or kickin’ it with a few of our close friends, or I’m at work. I do overnight stocking at Walmart which I HATE!
Dezzy-D: Its really nothing to do in this lil city, so I just work on music if I’m not kicking it with my closest people. I’m a simple man, I don’t do too too much, besides play 2k lol. Right now I’m working with my brother/best friend LiL BiLL Swavey, we are a group entitled “That Nation” & we have a lot coming for 2016, its no slacking, we’re gonna hit the game in different places
Slam Ent: Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
LiL BiLL Swavey: Yes!! Definitely, Dezzy and I are working on an ALBUM! our very first OFFICIAL album together! It’s a spin-off of our debut MIXTAPE which is on the website LiveMixtapes entitled “It Ain’t Dat Easy”. That’s been our main focus and priority lately. I think you guys will really enjoy listening to it just as much as we enjoy making it.
Dezzy-D: We’re currently working on our album “It Ain’t Dat Easy” which is a tune up of the mixtape version. It’s going to be dope.
Slam Ent: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
LiL BiLL Swavey: Fans should look forward to seeing a LOT MORE of our handsome faces because we are coming to EVERY CITY WE CAN POSSIBLY HIT! I can’t wait to meet EACH AND EVERY LAST ONE of our supporters. We have a “No Fan Left Behind” policy at our label “Mission Statement Ent.” and we stand by that!
Dezzy-D: We have a lot in store for our fans
