Musica for Africa is an exciting new project that brings together people of different backgrounds

Musica for Africa is an exciting new project that brings together people of different backgrounds, yet who share the same values of peace, love and freedom of religion, and express them through music. Drawing influences from Italy, the United States and Africa, it is a unique blend of genres ordinarily worlds apart.

Musica for Africa is a musical project created by Mariano Schiavolini, composer, music producer and member of the 70’s progressive rock group, Celeste.

He wanted to bring to life a series of songs, combining the styles of soul and spirituals with progressive rock.

On March 31st the first three songs of this project are being released in online stores in homage to the victims and their families of the Garissa University College attack of April 2, 2015, in which 148 people were killed and 79 were injured:

“Where Will it End” tells the story of the tragedy. It features Mermans Mosengo, of the international group Playing for Change, Thuthukani Cele, former keyboard player for Lucky Dube, and Johannesburg’s own Wits University Choir.

“Because You Are There” is a powerful spiritual sung by an ensemble of talented South African singers and the world-renowned Soweto Gospel Choir.

As a bonus, we have a second version of “Where Will it End”, sung by acclaimed New York City soul Artist, Clayton Bryant, and featuring the Soweto Choir.

A lot was accomplished in the past year, and this is only the beginning. Musica for Africa will continue to put out songs for all those who share our faith and love in the power of music.

Drake has released More Life on streaming services. It features appearances from Kanye West, Quavo, Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Giggs, Young Thug, PARTYNEXTDOOR and more.

Borrowing from afrobeat, dancehall, grime and modern R&B, Drake is doing “big man tings” on this project. As he explained in his OVO radio interview not long ago, the 6 God doesn’t feel the need to constrain his music within the limits of current streams of rap. And it shows on More Life.

He puts his evolving vocal chops on display more than once, notably on “Get It Together” and “Passionfruit.” And he still spits with the best of them on standouts like “Portland” and “Sacrifices.”

Nevertheless, this project marks his growing willingness to explore more poppy African and Caribbean sounds, and introduce them to Western audiences.
